Fish tacos I got was only deep fried batter and VERY LITTLE to no fish in the battered fish!!!
Only one server who was also bartender. She forgot about us twice. She was some what over worked so I can understand it.
Relaxing lunch in casual dining area in bar. Reliably good food at this historic restaurant.
Seafood was good, but portions were meager and overpriced.
Great food! Love the feeling of this place. Lots of parking around the area.
great service and the waitress was great she conversed with us about old things in Portland and made the visit greater.
Welcoming, cozy and warm family atmosphere with a lot of Portland history. Attention to details and fast service. Destiney, Ashley and Michelle always serve me with a great big smile and make me feel at home. Food and drinks are fresh and delicious!!!

I had a cup of clam chowder, which was rich and creamy and full of clams, and a shrimp Louis. Both were excellent! The Louis was small with only about half a cup of shrimps but for $16 perhaps that was to be expected.
Food here is excellent. Service is fast and efficient.
The sour dough bread was excellent! The seafood was fried perfectly.
We had a great time! Holly was super friendly and helpful and made my birthday dinner extra special. The oysters were delicious, as was everything else. We will definitely go back again.

Everything we ordered from the oyster appetizer to our main dishes, wild caught salmon and seafood platter was wonderful. We will go back soon.
Wonderful atmosphere, attentive server, delicious food, prime location

Food was great. Service was a little slow at first but quickly made up for it.

Holly was awesome. Clam strips, chowder and fish tacos were also great
Service was excellent. Server was very friendly, informative and adorable. Had fantastic smoked salmon chowder. Will definitely return!
A wonderful historic building. All the vintage plates & glass slides on the wall. The new bar addition seamlessly connects with the other dining interiors. We will definitely return.
The oysters were fresh and delicious along with the fish tacos; always very good.
We ate there for a light lunch on a Thursday. The service was fine and the food was good. The maritime theme of the decor matches well with the seafood-centered menu.
We came to celebrate two birthdays and because it was after the normal lunch hour we had to sit in the bar. Not very special.
I was impressed with the atmosphere of the restaurant, and the staff were very welcoming and a pleasure to have serving me. Food was very delicious! The salmon chowder was my favorite. The oysters were also quite tasty. A very small thing I noticed was that a couple of the oysters had a small piece of grit, or perhaps it was a small piece of shell. It wasn’t the end of the world. A mild inconvenience, but then again I’m not sure how easy it is to clean oysters. I’m not going to count that against the restaurant’s staff however. If there is a way to prevent that from happening, then it would literally make this place 100% perfect, in my eyes at least.
Great food and historic establishment, but the local hangouts just outside the door were annoying with their load outbursts and unpredictable behavior. Lots of homeless, mentally challenged people walking by the restaurant were a bit unsettling.
Oysters on the half shell were amazing. Restaurant is family owned and is currently run by it's fourth and fifth generation family members.
The server is wonderful. Very attentive and remembers drink orders from previous visits
Food delicious. Service great. Atmosphere warm and cozy.
Great place. Good service and people. I tame anyone to visit the rich history here
The happy hour calimari was a joke. It's was good though. Very little squid and it looks like they tried to hide the fact by adding French fries.

Oysters were great..waitress in bar was wonderful..warm and comfy atmosphere
Fantastic staff. Dinner was mostly French fries. That's why some people wont return. Rather have more oysters like it used to be! However, the few oysters we received were WONDERFUL.
Dan and Louis is always good. The crab stew is unbeatable.
Great antique ambiance. Family owned for 100 years, wow! Eclectic area too. Large delicious portions too, Homemade clam chowder, yummy. Oyster po boy sandwich with heaping stack of fries.
Excellent vibe & service. Seafood gumbo, oysters and chicken sandwich were all excellent.
Lee, Ducky and I are enjoying one of the best lunches I have ever had at this fifth generation owned Portland seafood restaurant. Lee has this huge cheeseburger and fries, we shared a spectacular clam chowder with giant chunks of clam and I have fish tacos also ordered Italian sparkling rose that is absolutely scrumptious (Cantine Maschio for my Dionysian friends) and a local Alemeda brewing pale Ale. Ducky’s favorite was the fish tacos.
We went because they can accommodate gluten free. I had the zuppe de clams and my sister had the stracciatella. Both were outstanding! The chicken scapariello was altered to be gluten free--it was great. My sister had one of the pasta specials with shrimp made gluten free. While it good, the flavor was a bit bland--she added cheese and ground pepper to add some flavor. We were too full to try desert
Excellent food and service.
It is great that Ankeny St has been closed to cars so you can enjoy outside seating.
I have eaten here many times but it's always been indoors, this is the first time I've been seated outside and it's wonderful! the weather is beautiful mid 70s cool overcast skies very wonderful. I'm having their special oysters and Seabass sauté with salad, coleslaw and a glass of Washington Riesling.
Ankeny Alley is closed to cars and all of the restaurants have sidewalk tables - we enjoy eating outside. Our server, Destiney, was very pleasant and helpful. We will be back soon.
Great service! Fried oysters were excellent.
Luke was a great server.
there was not any fresh fish or mussels and i understand its fresh so if no catch no fish but those were 2 main things on the menu that were not available. i will return, i enjoyed my visit there.
The food was excellent. They have a new chef.
Very cool atmosphere. Our server Degan took great care of us. Awesome employee.
Freshest best cooked seafood I've had.

Loved the atmosphere. I just picked the wrong entry ( the Hawaian plate) won't have it again. We will be back for another try.
The waitress I. The bar is always super friendly and helpful.

We sat in the bar area. Server was an awesome bartender, too! Love the history, fresh oysters and drinks. Very attentive server.
1/2 Caesar salad with baby shrimp as plenty with a roll. My husband did a seafood dish with fries, coleslaw and roll that he totally enjoyed along with a cup of clam chowder. Dan & Louie's Osyter has a great list to choose from and great service.
service was slow
We went 2 Happy Hour - we had oysters (delicious) & Oysters Rockefeller (just the right size). Clam Chowder was excellent (NOT flour-tasting like some). Service was great & people-watching was entertaining. Memorabilia inside is always fascinating.
Fresh Oysters on the half schell
Totally relaxing atmosphere and great for homeless watching
Top experience we've ever had! Fantastic!
oysters are excellent. sea monster oysters are off the charts great.
ambience a bit droll in the restaurant area.
The place is full of nostalga with pictures and old newspaper clipping throughout the restaurant. Our server was very pleasant and knowledgeable concerning the menu choices.
We went to Dan & Louis Oyster Bar for my husbands birthday. I surprised him..he did not know where we were going. The atmosphere is so eclectic, memorabilia surrounds the whole restaurantThe service was perfect, food outstanding, the only dad thing was...I took grew pics..no memory card in camera!! Overall.Ten +++
The ambiance is good, and I will probably still bring people there to experience it, but the quality of the food is not as good as it used to be. The Oyster Stew is not as flavorful and the number of oysters in each bowl is only 3. The prices have increased hugely from the old days and where did the silver bowls go???
Average food, limited menu
Owners are terrific! They are friendly and accommodating. Holly is the bartender, and she makes the cocktails just as they should be. The food is delicious and for me, the clam chowder and crab stew are the best in Portland. I don't (yet) eat oysters, but according to other customers, they are loving them.
I go to L&D's after work for a bite to eat and a cocktail. It's a cozy bar/restaurant, the bartenders are great and they have yummy food as well. Also, as a single woman, I feel very comfortable going to the bar at L&D's. I don't feel self conscious about being alone at this bar.
We used to eat at Dan and Louis often while dating 45 years ago and through the years and remember the large crab salads with iceberg lettuce and chewy rolls. The restaurant is rich with memories for us. The crab salad was about the same size but only a tiny bit of crab, could hardly taste the crab. My husband ordered oyster stew with double portion of oysters. The stew was luke warm with 4 oysters in it. This has always been his favorite and reason to travel 50 miles to eat here, but he was disappointed.
Menu needs updating as what I ordered was not what I got and the server did not explain that ahead of time. Also, $23.00 seems line a lot to pay for one small bowl of chowder, 2asoaragys spears and 5 oysters. Lastly, the service was very slow.
food was real good and service was great..
It's a great historic place, since the 1800's but smells very musty and old.Portions of food smaller for the money you pay (dinner $25) but they're in downtown pdx where city/gov taxes are oppressive to small business people there
We have been going annually for 35 years, and the quality of the food has gone down hill, while the pries have gone up. We keep coming back because it is a Christmas tradition, but this may have been our last time.
Excellent service every time, whether it is the first time you visit the restaurant or your usual weekly one! Love the personal attention and the home style atmosphere. The bar is my favorite hangout with Destiny and Ashley!!! Great margaritas...
Great ambiance, old Portland at its best.
This is our 2nd time there and the food is excellent.
The star of any entree is the protein. In this case it was the Oysters and the Cod. (Both meals in my party). In both cases the star was awesome, fresh and of decent size. The breading and preparation did not however enhance the star, it actually detracted from it. The oil used in frying the clams tasted as if it should have been changed a few orders prior to ours. The breading on the cod was too chewy and not light and flaky.Other than that, the service was attentive and professional.
Even though few people were at the restaurant our meal took forever. A neighboring table sent their food back. Small portions were highly priced.
Overpriced, undersized and nearly all fried seafood.
A very nice old venerable old place, sometimes service gets slow, but overall it is OK, the food is great, especially like the clam chowder bread bowl.
The food was great and the service was good.
Food was good, not fantastic. The place smelled a little bit, but know how old the building was, it wasn't a huge deal. The price would have been way too much if I didn't have the voucher.
Very overpriced.$19.00 for a shrimp louie that was nothing more than a dinner side salad with a quarter cup of bay shrimp. We stopped on the way home for a snack as we were still hungry.
would have been nice if the crab cakes had a little more of something on the plate
Always a great and fun experience! Very nice and attentive smiling servers. Great margaritas and hamburgers. Especially nice in the spring and summer time when you can dine outside on the big wooden tables! Love Dan and Louis Oyster Bar restaurant!!!
staff was efficient, friendly and seemed to care about my dining experience
I love the historic photos and memorabilia here. The architecture is made to look like the inside of a boat hull.
Attentive, never disappointing service! Great atmosphere and food...this restaurant will soon become your favorite hangout as it did with me! Destiney, the bar server, is the best!!!
Everyone makes feel like part of the family. Destiney, the bar server, is the best! She is very welcoming, great smile and always recognizes me and remembers my usual order: margarita on the rocks and burger with fries! Awesome service and atmosphere!!! Dan & Louis is now my favorite restaurant! I recommend it highly.
Took about ten minutes for the waitress to greet us, problems in kitchen meant the appetizers took forever to get out. Server was really not on her game, I was brought the wrong drink, she kept forgetting my boyfriends soda refill. My potatoes were cold when they came out, the cajun po'boy wasn't on a hoagie roll. Food was okay, nothing amazing.
The food was great. The staff was very attentive. We were celebrating a birthday and the complementary piece of cake for us all to share made it even better.
Excellent, friendly and prompt attention by the server at the bar. Food always comes fast, very nicely cooked and hot. The bartender always smiles, greets me and remembers my usual beverage! Awesome customer service and atmosphere!!!
For an order costing $25 I got 3 prawns, 2 scallops, small amount of cold fries and a small corner of the plate had a green salad from a bag. Seafood was good quality but the meal was not a good value. Partners meal was Ok. Broiled combo was drenched in liquid with no flavor. Coleslaw tasted terrible. Not sure what it was seasoned with but not a typical coleslaw.
dining isnt the point. It's really a bar with food.
The food was very good, and our waitress was excellent--attentive & gracious, but unobtrusive.
Cioppino was excellent, as was the salmon. Holly is a great wait person.
Nice service, clam chowders are very creamy. Enjoyed it. Dark beers were fine too.
the petite oysters were not so good bitter and over cooked and some not so petite
Good food, but way too smoky in the restaurant.
Great spot, nice ambiance. Though the bar area did smell like disinfectant or some kind of household cleaner, which I didn't care for. But after a few minutes i stopped noticing.
This was my 40th birthday dinner. Went with friends and we were all disappointed. Most of the staff was rude and inattentive. Moved to a different table after being seated. Slow for getting drinks. Salad was wilted and really bad presentation. Ordered shrimp salad and was served wilted spring lettuce with a small "glob" of tiny shrimp in the center. Nothing else in the salad. The blue cheese dressing was watery. Dinner was very slow. Took our dinner plates over to another table before bringing them to our table. When we got our "fried" food, everything was cold. Portions on the healthy side of the menu were extremely small. Fiance asked for vegetables for his side and got THREE small slices of grilled summer squash. Our bill after the $50 Restaurant.com gift certificate AND the manager taking of $50 was still over $70 dollars!!!!! Will NEVER go back or recommend to anyone!!!!!!!!!Bought 2 $50 gift certificates on Restaurant.com. Trading in the other one.Visited November 20131 of 5 stars Value1 of 5 stars Atmosphere1 of 5 stars Service1 of 5 stars Food
Understaffed. Food delivered cold. Portion sizes are way too small for average plate of healthy food. Salad lettuce was wilted. Took forever for drinks. Had I not had a gift certificate from restaurant.com, I would not have stayed. I have another certificate and I will be trading it in for some other restaurant. And this was my 40th birthday dinner!!!!!"""
Marginal service. No help w oysters. Out if first 2 wine choices. Not attentive. Food was ok. Understand part if the draw and charm is how old this restaurant is, but it's a bit underwealming overall.
We knew food was questionable from previous postings. It is just that. Happy Hour baked oysters consists of three topped w/minced garlic and oil with small lettuce leaf, baked till oyster is tough and rubbery. $6.00, Hey - no one said it's cheap.Rest or food followed same course. You can eat it, but it's not much to write home about.Location of place is bad. It's been in same place over 100 years. Maybe urban renewal will catch on in this area. It's a mess now.
Online menu much different than what was at the place
Server was good, but had to keep asking for water, they were out of oyster crackers, but they brought us little packages, so we opened them and put them in a bowl just like years ago!! And we had to ask for a roll. The walking/talking magician was a surprise to us, although he didn't disturb us, but another table totally enjoyed him! Also price went up, less shrimp fry and more french fries filled the plate. uurrgghhh Also $1.50 twice was on our bill, and after mentioning it, the server returned, but then it was .75 twice, mentioned it again and he deleted it, said the machine was adding auto.??!!!
the time before we were in the service was awful, this time it was a lot better, the only complaint I would have is it took quite awhile to get our food and on a lunch hour we had to get go boxes because we didn't have time to eat it all.
The service was fabulous. We were there for a birthday celebration and our waitress really made it great!
Place is going downhill. I started going there 10 years ago.
Our waiter was very friendly and fast. Also the bottle of wine we ordered was currently out of stock so they substituted a higher priced brand of pinot gris.
oyster stew had plenty of oysters, but the milk stew was mediocre. No excuse for wasting good oysters on a recipe in great need of updating. Make it stunning - find a new recipe. Other stews were phenomenal.
Surprisingly small portions, we were still quite hungry after our meals, and at about $23 ea. before the discount, I would have expected better portions.Had to even ask for some bread after eating to curb hunger, didn't even come with meal, Really ? Presentation was pretty much non-existant too. No wonder the place was empty on a Friday afternoon.
I liked the place. It is old with lots of character & charm.Service was a bit slow. (but I think we were in a rush and the resturant was quite busy) Although, main food portion was a bit small but the quality and taste was good and well worht the wait.
the oysters were not good. The clam chowder had a chemical taste. the waitress did all she could to make things right.
the oysters were not good. The clam chowder had a chemical taste. the waitress did all she could to make things right.
Love the history of this place. The staff is always so polite too!
They were short staffed and had to call in a waitress to serve us.She was very accommodating to our tight time schedule and gave us a discount for having to wait. Serving sizes were small for the price. I had the seafood dinner platter and was able to eat the whole meal without effort. Not normal for me. Wouldn't have been enough for a male.
Fried shrimp were good, bay shrimp soup excellent, good svs, no wait at 5:30 pm, walking distance from benson hotel about 6 blocks
Great waitress. Good stiff drinks. Small portions for the pricing.
Excellent server. Prices overall are a bit high for the type and amount of food, but probably in line with downtown.
very good food and service
Holly, our waitperson, was great!
We had a very positive experience during our recent visit. As visitors from the MD/DC area, we were unfamiliar with the best places to dine; however, several locals suggested we try Dan & Louis. While the food was outstanding (loved the fresh oysters!), the best part was the outstanding service. In addition to being very personable, she suggested several menu items which reflected the particular preferences of our family members, came back to the table often to ensure everything was fine and provided prompt, efficient service with a smile. While we felt very special, it was clear this was the way in which they deal with each and every customer at Dan & Louis Oyster Bar. Much of the key to success in the hospitality industry is related to relationships; our appreciation for having wonderful staff! We look forward to visiting the restaurant during future visits to Portland!
Appetizers, salad, and entrees should not take two hours to arrive at a table. It took 30 minutes before we ordered, another 30 to receive appetizers, another for the salad, another for the entrée. They were apologetic, but this is about enticing people to come back! I sent a message two days ago about the experience, but have heard nothing back. They have sufficient repeat customers to cover for what happened to us.
pizza was awesome
I had the house special. Pan fried oysters with garlic mashed potatoes. The oysters were so bad that I couldn't finish eating them. Some were over cooked with to much batter to where they were like eating playdoe and others were under cooked soft and mushy. I tried covering the taste with extra amounts of tarter sauce but still was unable to choke them down. The mashed potatoes were just a bland blob sitting on the plate with not much flavor.I went to Dan and Louis(oyster)bar with the expectation of eating the best pan fried oysters I've ever had and left there knowing I just ate the worst oysters ever.
Great food, very fresh. Unpretentious. I has the broiled oysters, my friend had the fish & chips. Both were excellent. Try the homemade slaw!
Love their sea faring atmosphere.
You just can't find better raw oysters
Blue cheese Salad dressing best I have ever had. Loved the feel of the place, and the service was outstanding and friendly.
I made a reservation to bring 2 elderly friends who hadn't been there in many years. We were seated and after 15 minutes I had to wave down a waiter. 2 other couples came in, with a man in each party. They were seated and waited on immediately and received their food & drink way before we did.
Always enjoy our time there
The atmosphere is this place is historic and very interesting but the food seemed to be only so so.
It was just "ok", especially for the price. The staff was really great, and the theme was cool, nice atmosphere. I just wasn't "wowed" by the food.
Service lacking but pleasent, food quality ok but quantity/cost just average.
Food was not good.
Pretty casual environment for the price but overall good fod. The service was a little odd as he din't know what kind of steak he was serving us. But the steak was very good and cooked to med-rare perfection!
The oysters are simply the best.
We had a very nice experience over all and will definitely go back
lovely outdoor seating area on picnic tables unfortunately dining experience disappointing due to lots of panhandlers
Portions were smaller than expected, but were very good. Wish they had a better wine list it pretty much seems one winery oriented. Great atmosphere. We always have a good time here.
From the steamed clams to the chowder to the prawns, everything was delicious and presented well.
Oysters were good. Waitress was nice but not knowledgeable. Put oyster sampler down but did not tell us which was which till we called her back and asked, and even then she told us one was kumoto and we had to correct her, as we didn't order those. Dubious that she identified the others correctly. Portions small, price Wes high, quality of broiled and fried players were so so. Presentation was poor. And entrance to dining room smelled like ammonia. Would probably use restaurant.com again and get oysters only.
Food was excellent but portions were somewhat small.
My salad was gross and had bad lettuce, the food wasn't anything to rave about
Gluten free options for seafood.
We had very good service. The bar seating wasnt the greatest, but overall a fun spot
We have been eating at the Oyster Bar for 45 years and the atmosphere hasn't changed a bit which is a good thing. But, the service and quality of the food is better than ever - also a good thing! A place we must go every time we visit portland from SLC.
Serving size was not that big, the flavor was so-so.
Food was bad, fries burned, oyster half shells were tiny. I think they have changed food quality and portion size. Service was ok because no one was eating in the dining room which was uncomfortable. Bartender was rude at the entrance while I waited to be seated.
Had to wait 15 minutes for a table and the place was empty. Food was just okay and pricey for the quality. Once we were seated the service was good.
Had quiet late lunch which I enjoyed. Matt the server was great.
Good service, great food!
First time going there, i think it would b nice to ask, an then maybe suggest some items, clam chowder needs more clams! New seasons clam chowder has more
High quality food, service, and experience. Love the history of this restaurant!
One of the meals, the broiled platter, must have been ready before the others because it was not very hot, but still very good.
I believe her name is Tara Lynn she was our waitress...she was outstanding!!!
Our servers were very accommodating, & the food was as good as we remembered from our last visit 14 years ago. It was definitely worth our trip from out of town.
Jake was fantastic..very helpful!Music was way too loud in the bar though..we could barely visit or hear the waitress.
Service was really bad. The place is a bit dingy but still has some charm
service with a smile! the waitress made us feel well taken care of.
This restaurant is old and tired. It's sad it was a landmark as restaurants go. It smelled stale right off . The waitress and other workers though nice looked and dressed like they just came off the street. The food was so sub par I didn't really want to pay the additional amout above coupon. Didn't eat it all and definitely didn't take home.
Somewhat dirty place, waiters and bus boys look unkept, ambiance was drab, quality of food was somewhat expensive, my fried cod was soggy and cold, fries were old and not fresh, soggy. Salad tasted weird, lettuce wilted, and shrimp and crab smelled inedible. Didn't try the oysters. From what I can tell, this place has let itself go, and doesn't take pride in what they serve, especially freshness, and cooking things in the right temperature, or presentation
We bought the $50 gift card so that we would have to splurge, and so we got a LOT of GREAT seafood. The oysters on the half shell were excellent, as was the house special cioppino. The house white wine went perfectly with all we had. We will dine here every time we are in town.
Holly-absolutely terrific server! Food very good, although recipe of salmon chowder not as good as former version. Great time!!
Service was very slow and the waitres needs to know the menu better
French fries were luke warm at best and the main items ok but could have been better. This is not like them normally
The food was just warm. It was not hot. It was good but also small portions.
service slow, had to ask for lemons twice, only 1 size oysters & food was not very good for the price. Might go back but only for the oysters on the half shell
yum and they have a great waitress that has been there for years ....very helpful
The location was pleasant for me and my companion and the waitress was very attentive.
Multiple blips, bumps, and issues. Their signature martini cocktail had to be imported from the bar next door, the crab and shrimp cocktail first came without crab, but then we got the correct cocktail without the cocktail sauce, the blue cheese dressing tasted like Ranch, the fries arrived as garlic mashed potatoes, and the "warm pie" was cold.
We loved the atmosphere and our server was AMAZING. Plus, I had the best Lemon Drop I've ever had.
We ordered the Admiral's Feast and, quite frankly, it did not meet our exptations, for the price ($25).. It was mostly deep fried oysters with 4 shrimp and only one small (2-inch dia.) piece of cod which was way over cooked and mushy. there were some scallops which were just OK but one was overcooked. The Squid pieces were small and overcooked also. We were very disapointed. We had a dozen oysters on the half shell, two varities. The six Tillamook Bay oysters seemed to be a bit mushy and not as good as the other six. They did give us a small complementary Marion berry dessert, since it was my birthday, but it seemed to be sort of old, not freshly made.
Always great service along with great food.
We had dinner in the bar and your employee, Holly, made the experience fun.
We weren't acknowledged when we entered, or left. Server was not extremely attentive. My ciopino was not served with a spoon and when I requested one I was given a teaspoon. Our captains plate was doughy. The calamari on the captains plate was not enjoyable.
The calimari was over done and over breaded. Had to ask for aolie.
Best crab cakes I've ever had!!!
The Menue was Tooo limited and the return on investmant was not worth it
Very expensive for what it was. Our waitress wasn't very friendly.
Wanted to try this place for a long time. Server took forever to bring things. The food was cold. Drinks were not refilled. Felt rushed by the server
Excellent place with a real Northwest feel. The food is a little pricey for the amount you get, but still well worth it.
Food was awful, and service was marginal at best. This place is a mess.
THe service was excellent but I felt the food came out of a Van de Kamps box
Food was pretty good, but service was incredibly slow to the point where we almost walked out when we hadn't received menus still and it had been 20 minutes sitting at the table.
Best fresh oysters in Portland, OR and servers know a lot about them.
We are from out of town...The Oyster Bar is in the neighborhood of our hotel. We come here once year and go there for dinner.
Expensive!
Have eaten at Dan and Louis Oyster Bar for many many years, just not often lately. When our children were young and we would travel to Portland that was one place that all three of them wanted to eat. So glad you are still in business. I was surprised at how few people were there today for lunch. In past years we have even had to wait in line to be seated and the place was full. Hope it was just an off day.
Great I would try outside eating if weather permits
The hostess did not acknowledge us and prepared an osyter dish that took about 5 minutes rather than seating the party in front of us and us. Our first impression was not very good, but the waitress was great.
We love D&L OB. Excellent food as always. The Restaurant.com coupon encouraged us to visit again though. Sometimes we forget about the great stuff there. We like to try lots of different spots.
Historic family restaurant filled with memorabilia from the early days of Portland and the coast. Unique interior,
Great server an oysters fresh!!
Love the history and atmosphere. True Portlandia at it's best! Great bringing coastal feeling to the city. Nice staff and wonderful treatment for a birthday celebration! THANKS MUCH
The restaurant wasn't busy at all, and we still waited over 90 min. for our meals. Not good food either. We've been wanting to try out this restaurant...won't be going back. Too bad.
This has been a favorite for years, and last night was one of the best. Someone knows how to fry squid!!
Worst seafood meal I've had. Will never go back or recommend it. Took forever to get our food as well.
Terrible food, small portions, awful experience!
Awesome! Will be back!
wonderful food! Delightful waitress
food not that great. not much selection. wine ok. prices really high for what you get. would not eat here again.
We really enjoyed our experience at the "Oyster Bar", the coupon opportunity was the catalyst for our visit. Thanks so much!
Reataurant.com ..awesome..Dan And Louis Oyster BAr perfect combination..Will definitely go back ..
I ate there many years ago. I was bringing 2 cousins age 93 and 87 for the fried oysters. Our server went beyond her duties in helping us.
We absolutley love the pictures and wAll hangings...it's like eating in a museum of old portland. Great clam chowder too.
Slowest service ever. Food was mediocre and priced pretty high. I was bummed to not have liked it more. :(
missed your mashed potatoes.
Fine but not stunning.
Server was nice, but slow. They were out of several items (beers) and kitchen area did not seem clean.
We have been going there since 1960. Great place
Oysters were great! The horse radish was awesome! I didn't care for the batter on the fried Cod though.
the decore was very nice and it was very interesting to be able to read about the family on the card at the table
The portion sizes continue to be small for a dinner. The cod was mushy and sliced to thin...very similar to skippers. This is definitely not the landmark restuarant from years ago. We took visitors here from New York and Seattle last year and again portion sizes were embaressing.
we love to bring visitors and guests there and the coupons make it possible for us to invite people (and generate new fans of Dan & Louis) in an affordable way! Yhank you!
Chowder salty...but good :)
This is a very historical restaurant in downtown Portland and it took our certificate to make us try it again. We definately recommend it!
great food! a family favorite!
We had a 4 generation gathering and so we had some elderly people and the server did great with everyone. We had some in the group who visited the Oyster Bar back in the late 60's and 70's, so they enjoyed being back and seeing it again.
GOOD FOOD,GOOD SERVICE AND NICE ATMOSPHERE.
Great service! Delicious food!
Been coming to Dan and Louis for over 50 years.
My family have eaten at this restaurant for the last 30 yrs and even longer.
HOLLY, OUR SERVER, IS CONSISTANTLY THE BEST SERVER FOR OUR DEMANDING GROUP!
Had a delightful 65th birthday dinner with my husband who loves seafood.
Delicious! Wouldn't have gone without the coupon. Thanks!
the cod we ordered was extreme.y goo, cooked perfectly..ambience roamantic ...service was awesome...was surprised !!will defenitely coemng back !!
The service was very slow considering there were only two other tables dining at the time we came in. The scallops way undercooked. Dangerous to our health. The shrimp salad was the only good food item we tried. Some of the oysters on half shell were good - some were not. Very spotty quality on the food and service.
waitstaff (lady) outstanding..
Being going there since the 1960's when first moved to Portland, OR area.
The family atmosphere there is great, and they are very friendly and helpful with our two kids' desires.
The House Special was amazing! Best food ever.
Hard to park, but the food is worth the effort!
best oysters ever
WE can't remember how I first heard of Dan and Louis Oyster Bar. We have lived in Portland since 1965 and it seems we have always known about Dan and Louis Oyster Bar. Loved the nostalgia on the walls. We were in the main dining room and it was cold; we noticed the little room off the entrance was much warmer. The coupon was handled respectively. Sometimes workers frown on the coupon and treat those using it poorly.
Most disappointed with the preparation and presentation of our meals. Food was not at all what we had hoped for. Server was very good.
We really enjoyed our time at restaurant & our server, Holly, was very plesant. As a child I had lived in Oysterville & we rented a cottage from Mrs. Wagsmuth for 3 years. Destined to dine at Dan & Louis! Marcia
I have been going to Dan & Louis Oyster bar since I was a little girl in the late 50's. Much has changed, but it is always reliable and comfortable. It's a much loved favorite in our family
My first order was too spicy, and they gladly replaced with another entree. Nice service
The clam chowder was good, but the entree was just OK, and seemed overpriced for the small amount of food (we got a broiled seafood combination, and there just wasn't much there)
Think the waiter was having an off night, other than that the food was great and we will be returning.
Fresh as the ocean food to celebrate my son's engagement. Thank you for making it so nice.
I had the pan fried petite oysters. They breading was a little heavy and over cooked.
Clam chowder tasted dirty and server did not come to check on us once!
Server was awesome. The Sinatra was a nice touch for a date.
It is sad to see a classic restaurant lose its style. Several comments: 1. Prices were way above market (you could tell by the lack of customers). 2. Quality of food was ok, but has not kept up with modern times. 3. Restaurant has a stale smell. It is sad to see what has happened to this restaurant.
The coupon I used was a little misleading. I had a $50 off of a $100 bill. When we got the bill back, only $25 was taken off. Was the tip because we still tipped 15%. Which would have totaled the tip to be 45% tip and even though we had great service I really don't think the coupon stated that the tip would be included in the 50 off. I would have tipped according to the full bill but very confused and was not informed the reason why. If you could, in the future, let customers know then I would have rated everything to be excellent.
great food, great ombionce
I have gone to your restuarant since I was a child, I am now 65. I have always loved the food.
Our reservation was on a weeknight at 6:30pm. Before our dinner even arrived, the server cleared the tables behind us, put the chairs on top of the tables and started mopping the floor!!!! We thought that was rude, unwelcoming and unappetizing.
Excellent food! Server was very attentive, friendly and knowledgeable. Will go again for sure!
Our server who was also our bartender provided excelllent service & was mindful of helping us meet our time restraints.
They had swing music playing over the restaurant speaker system and rap music playing loudly in the bar where people were washing dishes. They were completely clashing with each other. The dichotomy really destroyed the ambiance, and displayed a lack of respect for their customers.
We had wanted to visit your restaurant for a long time now. When I saw the Restaurant.com certificate, we just couldn't pass it up. Thanks.
My mom has been going to Dan & Louis since before I was born (70's) and it's her favorite restaurant. It was nice to be able to take her there when she visited from Idaho!
The salmon chowder is highly recommended!
Dan & Louis Oyster bar has been a family favorite for many many years. I took my parents as they can no longer drive and the food and service and establishment was excellent. But unfortunately they are priced above the market for a comparable seafood dinner. It is so much more expensive than other top restaurants where I can get a comparable meal. We were the only party in the dining room on a Thursday night durring the dinner hour. I am afraid their high prices will price them right out of the market and they will eventually close which is too bad. It is in a great area for night life and has a bar, but they really need to reduce the porices to stay in business.
The crab cakes were excellent! Best we've had, and we try them everywhere!
we had ordered petit pan fried oysters and what we got was deep fried oysters and they were not that good
Waitress gave my more expensive order to other person in party, I did not want to say anything, service was so slow and reception was horrible...told to go to bar to wait, no bartender, waited 10 mins past reservation time?? Why?
Way overpriced! Average fried food. Crappy slow service.
Great flavor good amount have loved this place for over 40 years.
Good food. Atmosphere could be a but more personalized outside- I was hoping it would be a bit more romantic. When I looked at the dining menu, I wasn't sure if ordering chowder would be appropriate for my experience this time as I brought a date here... Perhaps I would be more enticed if a side selection of fresh veggies were offered as well to compliment the dish. I was impressed by the house selection of wine that practically filled our glasses, and I will certainly remember my experience when I decide I would like a nice glass of wine on a summer day in PDX.
We do eat there without coupons but when doing more than 2 we use the rest.com coupon.
We have eaten here in the past and the food was good, not this time. For the money we expect a quality dining experience, Skippers would have done as well and saved us $100.00 dollars.
It's a good deal, but the food and service is only OK>
They reduced the amount if food given because we used the certificate. Also, service was terrible. Will never eat hear again!
While very busy the bartender received his 10 percent tip and never once asked how our meal was or if we needed anything. We were initially greeted being told there was a 40 minute without reservations, wait yet the place was less than half full.
clam chowder tasted moldy, slow service - took nearly 2 hours for dinner. wondering if coupon deal caused poor service. dinner was overpriced, if I ever go again it will be for lunch.
A very pleasant experience. We would certainly return.
We have always enjoyed Dan & Louis. I was a little disappointed last night as my husband received his wine, but it took forever for me to get my drink and then my meal was served and my asparagus came when I was almost done. I will go again tho, everyone has a bad night now and then.
My daughter had never been to the restaurant so we decided to give it a try
Food was so-so. Waited a long time for it to arrive. Waitress was not very interested in us or the food she served.
Oysters and chowder were excellent. Crab louie was disappointing. Server was top notch. Overall a good experience.
The draw for Dan and Louis is the fresh oysters, and that was as usual fantastic. The rest of the dinner is expensive for what you get. The seafood is fresh but is under seasoned.
Just not the same as I remembered it. The space is the same but the menu is not.
We had a 1 plus hour wait just to be seated. Once we were did get a table, the food we ordered was bland and lukewarm as was the coffee. Refills were slow and often my cup ran dry. The table next to us was equally unimpressed as one lady said, "I have been coming here for 20 years and the food is not suppose to look like that"
It would be nice if they had at least one vegetarian meal available. No,fish, meat only plant based items.
Service was straight forward efficient but lacking in charm or friendliness. Eating in the restaurant was a nice treat, but I would have loved to be able to eat in the bar as that is where the action is.
We stood around with no one bothering to seat us even though it was empty. They were out of 4 of their 7 beers. They got one of our two orders wrong, didn't apologize, didn't adjust the bill, said they were backed up so it would be awhile for them to bring the right food out, then brought out cold and undercooked food. Never again.
Oysters in the stew were very chewy. Double portion was skimpy. Not the quality or service I have had in the past.
